BillG, amen brother!!! No more HP in my office. i was an all HP based office unitl last month, just garbage... 2 of my personal laptops were in the shop getting new motherboards. One came back and went back out becuase the network card wasnt working and they replaced the motherboard again. I have since then bought 3 thinkpads and am slowing selling (giving away) my HP's.

I spent some time wading through the HP website and found that this issue is covered under an "HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement",(I think they used to call'em 'recalls'). After some conversation, a late registration, and a battery of troubleshooting questions, with a very polite man, with questionable but servicable, english skills, they are shipping me a box to ship it to them, and will repair the unit, and send it back FREE of charge, even though I am out of my warrantee period! If there are issues that are not related to the 'recall' they will call and we will discuss it.

Check here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3250970&docname=c01087277#c01087277_identify

Not having to look at ~$250 or more in service charges, or ~$600 for a new unit, a month and a half before Christmas ... Well my wife loves me again! Sorry to have done you out of any service calls Ryan.

GB-)

BTW: The R in my name stands for Ryan!

I too have my wife's Compaq Presario V6000 partially apart on my workbench. It has the same symptoms, Lights flash, 2- 5 seconds later nada. Battery in, battery out, different (but identical) AC Adapter. She NEEDS this for school, so I'vebeen looking at a new machine, but it just KILLs me to consider tossin this baby so I thought I should attempt a repair. So wheredo I find the "power supply IC or buffer memory"?
